Street-level Superstar

(Ode to Boston)

By Susan Dietrich

Got no expectations

So you can’t let me down

Got my own motivation

That’s why I stick around

Well, I've got fans in Timbuktu

Nova Scotia and Alabam’

‘Cause the folks who visit the Birthplace of Freedom

Leave knowin’ who I am

So don’t tell me that I missed the boat

And I’ll never get too far

‘Cause I’m just fine doin’ my own thing

As a Street-level Superstar

Well, I’m too thin and I work too hard

I overheard you say

Tho’ it won't be weight, baby, what I gain

Is more than my daily pay

‘Cause the satisfaction of bringing joy

To the ones who dig my sound

Means more to me than the pain you cause

By tryin’ to put me down

So don’t tell me that I missed the boat

And I’ll never get too far

‘Cause I’m just fine doin’ my own thing

As a Street-level Superstar

Well, I may be thin and I do work hard

As I overheard you say

So toss me a fin and I’ll think of you

As I eat my cheese soufflé

Well, I’ve got fans in Liverpool

New Delhi and Birmingham

‘Cause the folks who visit the Birthplace of Freedom

Leave knowin’ who I am

So don’t tell me to take my act

To some local club or bar

‘Cause I’m just fine doin’ my own thing

As a Street-level Superstar!
